On April 12, 2019, with his teammates and children lined up beside him, veteran goaltender Peter Budaj took the ice one last time as a professional hockey player.
He would retire as the winningest goalie in Ontario Reign history, a three-time Olympian and a player who was respected by his teammates and fans. It all began 32 years earlier, when Budaj was four-and-a-half-years-old, sitting with his dad in Slovakia, watching the Canadian men's national hockey team battle Russia. "Canada ended up winning. And I told my Dad, 'I want to play hockey and I want to play in Canada,'" Budaj said.
